Scanning Electron Microscopy
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is somewhat more specific for asbestos, but is not a definite asbestos identifier. SEM is more sensitive to thinner fibers than PCM but there is no standard protocol available for SEM. It has not been systematically evaluated nor have the reliability of SEM measurements been established.
